Thanks for that, Dan and great to hear from you!
Around 18mths ago, several readers told me that it was frequently impossible to read EngagingChina within China and that this situation had existed for many months.
I suspect that the Great Firewall of China used to block out large ranges of IP addresses that belonged to blog hosting companies that hosted a "problematic" site, irrespective of how many innocent sites got caught in the net. Pour encourager les autres...
Its great to see that, in recent months, the GFC has become a bit more discriminating and people can now read EngagingChina in China.
However, when I tried the web address http://engagingchina.wordpress.com in the WebSitePulse test tool, I got the worrying message "couldn't connect to host" from Beijing. I could, nevertheless, from Munich.
Engagingchina.wordpress.com mirrors the content of www.EngagingChina.com but is hosted on Wordpress.com. Its still in beta and, ironically, I was planning to switch over to Wordpress to get around the China access problems, It looks like I should forget about changing hosting provider and stick with the old EngagingChina for now.
Thanks for the tip about WebSitePulse -- Ill be using the tool regularly from now on to see how long theis spirit of Glasnost lasts!
Geoff
