If your company doesn't have a Chinese language website and “.cn” domain then get one soon. That's because China will soon overtake the US as the world's largest internet market.
The country has more than 162m internet users and each minute 100 rookies go online for the first time, estimates the China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC).
Around 122m access the internet via broadband connections and a surprisingly large number, one in every four , or 44m , accesses the internet by mobile phone. As China has yet to launch high-speed 3G services, I suspect these wireless users only go online for basic services such as reading e-mail, chat or downloading ring-tones via WAP browser.
With Internet penetration rate now more than 12%, China had more than 9m domain names, including 6.15m ending with “.cn”.
About 67m computers in China are connected to the internet, up almost 8m in the first six months
The US continues to lead the online world with around 211m users, although China is likely to overtake it in the next couple of years.
