Dow Corning, the US maker of hi-tech materials, is looking to tap into the opportunities in China's fast-growing microelectronics market. To that end, it has appointed company veteran Phil Dembowski as Greater China business director for Dow Corning's Advanced Technologies and Ventures Business.
Dow Corning makes a variety of silicon-based sealants and materials used in hi-tech applications, and more than half of its sales are outside the US.
Dow Corning opened its China Application Centre in Shanghai back in 2002 as part of its ongoing initiative to strengthen customer collaborations in China. Two years ago the capacity of this centre was doubled with the addition of 2,500 sq metres of new space for laboratories.
Dembowski will transition into his new role over the next several weeks and will relocate from Michigan to China, along with his family, later this year.
Dow Corning is equally owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning.
