premierfarnell.jpgWhere your customers go, you must follow. Premier Farnell, the UK-based electronics distributor, has unveiled a new Greater China business in a bid to get closer to the growing amount of electronic design being done in China.

In a former life, EngagingChina owned a
well-thumbed copy of the Farnell catalogue, but today's electronics
designers are more likely to consult specs and order parts online.

So, to power its Greater China business, Premier Farnell has build a
fully transactional website and catalogue in simplified Chinese , as
well as created an independent local-language ERP system.

Asia currently accounts for less than 5% of revenues for Premier
Farnell's various electronics distribution businesses, but the company
sees big growth potential in China.

As well as the countless western businesses that have set up
operations in Greater China, there are the local electronics
manufacturers who are moving up the value chain and evolving from
simply assemble operations to undertake more electronics design.
Harriett Green, Premier Farnell's CEO, said:

High service distribution is our strength, and an area that we have
placed great emphasis on with our investment in China. We recognise the
leading edge design taking place in the region, and our website and
catalogue offer locally tailored access to over 120,000 key products.”

To reduce the supply chain challenges of serving Greater China
customers, a new warehouse and distribution centre in the WaiGaoQia
free trade zone of Shanghai's Pudong district and another in Taiwan's
Tapou. That will allow around 18,000 items to be sourced locally.
